A blend of theoretical learning and practical demonstrations.

Theoretical Components

Hazards: wheel breakage, kickback, dust inhalation, noise, vibration.

Legislation: PUWER, Health and Safety at Work Act, abrasive wheel regulations.

Wheel selection: types, markings, compatibility with materials (e.g., metal, concrete).

PPE requirements: respirators, eye protection, gloves, hearing defenders.

Risk assessment and control measures, including dust suppression.

Practical Components

Pre-use inspections: checking guards, fuel/battery, wheel condition.

Mounting and changing abrasive wheels safely.

Safe operation techniques: cutting angles, support, anti-kickback methods.

Assessment and Certification
